Who I Am

I am the second youngest of four sisters. My father is Mexican and my mother is Salvadorian (which I love; so many food options). I was born in East LA, lived in Venice for a portion of my childhood and by the age of 10 my parents decided to move my family to the small town known as Gridley. In 2007 I graduated from GHS and went on to attend my "dream" school, UC Davis where I majored in Biological Science with the goal of eventually being admitted into a Nursing Program. After 2.5 years at this university and Nursing was not a major they offered, I decided to transfer to CSU Chico. My first semester there I completed the nursing prerequisites but shortly after I changed my major to Health Science Education. I realized I wanted to be able to help others, not so much as a nurse but by educating them to help them meet their goals.

What My Interests Are

Things I enjoy are spending time with family, especially my nieces, nephew and godson. (They are by far my favorite little people in the world) I absolutely adore them. I also enjoy playing with my pups. I have a 5-year-old Boston Terrier/Chihuahua mix named Suley (I've had him since he was only four weeks old, and my newest dog, a six-month-old Pomeranian named Toby. Aside from my family and dogs, I enjoy watching movies; especially comedies, taking road trips, listening to music, baking and who can forget... Shopping!!!

Why UB Is Important To Me

As a sophomore at Gridley High School, Upward Bound came into my life to really help me shape and attain my goals. Attending college was something I also knew I wanted to do but it wasn't until TRiO came into my life that I was able to figure out how I was going to get there. I was a student for Upward Bound Math and Science. I spent my summers in the Upward Bound summer programs, which was a great eye opener and put college into better perspective for me. The two years as a participant of Upward Bound had a real positive affect in my life and I knew this was not something I wanted to give up once I graduated from high school. As an undergrad at UC Davis I worked Upward Bound as a tutor and once I transferred to CSU Chico I continued to work as a tutor/advisor for students. Being able to give back to our students what the program gave me is a great satisfaction. Helping students in reaching their academic and career goals is my passion.
